The Phone Call

Thursday evening
a little before 8 pm
I got
the call.

The one that no one
wants to get.

Someone you love
has a medical emergency.

It was Mr. Wayside Treasure's boss
on the phone.

Hubby had passed out.
Cold.
On the cement floor
beside his machine.

Upright one minute
Flat on the floor
the next.

Co-workers ran
to his aid.
Waited with him
until he came to.

Calling his name.
Over and over.

 EMS came.
Then off to the
hospital.

You know
that place
where they poke
you with needles,
ask you tons of questions
and try to figure out
what's wrong.

They poked
and
poked
and poked
some more.

No veins to be found.
They kept poking
over and over
and
over and over
and
over and over
again...

{not exaggerating}

One nurse
Two nurses
Three nurses
Four...

Fourth one
brought down
from
ICU

She got blood.
Finally.

Severely dehydrated.
Potassium very low.
{from losing so much fluid from
being sick}

Home?
Nope.
We want to admit him.
ugh!
double ugh!

Pumped him with
fluids
and potassium.

Forgot to tell him that
potassium
is very painful
as it drips in.

Extremely painful!

"Feels like someone
scooping out my arm
with an ice cream
scoop painful!"

I went after and
found a nurse.
She slowed it
down
so it was tolerable.
Almost.

My eyes were barely
staying open.
I headed home
for some rest.

Rest did not come.
Don't know why I tried.

A few hours later.
Back to hospital.
 Up to his room.

More poking
and prodding.

Veins did not cooperate.

So many nurses.

We laughed our
way through.
most of the time.

What else
can you
do?!

I told them,
"he would not make
a good
blood donor".

They agreed.

No blood
draw
the usual way.
Not working.

Put in a Pic line.
That will work!

Did not work.
They said they
 have never known
it not to work.

Teeniest amount of
blood
finally
in the tube
after four more
nurses
tried.

It clotted
immediately.

Couldn't use it.

Over and over...
quite an ordeal.
Then, it clotted in
the syringe.

huh? what?

We have never
seen this before.

Again, teeniest amount
of blood drawn.

Nurse:
I am literally
 running this
down to
the lab
before it clots!

Relief...
for a bit.

Minutes later
Two more nurses..

"we are going
to draw
your blood."

Seriously?
You are kidding!
Won't work.

It worked!
No problem!

"Where were you
hours ago?"

I brought him
HOME
about 5 pm
Friday.

He is so
thankful to be
back
HOME.

Sore tailbone
and
bit his lip
from his
close-up encounter
with the
floor.

Bruised
and
battered,
but
HOME!

Thank you God!

{he is back to work today
after a restful weekend}

12.18.2012. An angel for Keira

It started out as a normal day just like any other day. Pretty routine.
Everyone gets up and goes to work, or prepares to start their day at home.
I like to think that I pray for my kids and grandchildren every day, but there
are those days that get so busy that I forget.  This particular day...I don't remember.

...but then came the text..."we are in the hospital with Keira. She had an accident at
the Y and almost lost part of her finger"...talk about a jolt out of the blue!! If that
doesn't shake you awake I don't know what will.  I texted my son right back and he
kept in touch with me for the next several hours via texting and phone calls.

{thank God for amazing technology!! }

Keira { our little 5 year old petite ballerina granddaughter} had gotten her hand caught
in a large door at the Y and it made a mess of her finger. Such a tiny , sweet little girl who
loves life so much and is so full  of joy was going through a horrible ordeal and there was
nothing I could do except pray.

I prayed that God would send an angel to watch over her and comfort her little body and
mind at this time.

She was so brave and such a little trooper and we are so proud of her.  If I could have taken
away her pain and put it on myself, I would have, but we all know that life isn't that way.

Her finger got cut behind her fingernail at such a a downward angle that it literally almost took
the end of her finger off. It did take off a little slice of bone and we are so very thankful that
the doctors were able to fix her all up. Thankfully they gave her  meds so she could sleep
during the stitching.

Below is a picture and if you are the least bit squeamish, you will not want to view it.
Her tiny little finger is bloody and all stitched up at the end. She looks so tired in the photos,
but that little stinker insisted on going to her preschool program that night.  She did
not participate in it, but she wanted to go and she did!!

We are so thankful that the accident was not any worse, but it goes to prove once again how life
can change in a split second.
Please keep her in
your prayers that all will go well with the
healing process.

Live life to the fullest and
cherish every single second!

Sorry this isn't a pretty Christmas post...:)
Blessings to each and everyone of you for Gods best in the New Year!!

Appendectomy for Easter!

Yep it is true. I am betting you had a much more fun Easter than I did...I will be back with more details
later. Such as how I drove myself to hospital late Friday evening {hubby was out of town}...just got
home today...they didn't let me shower for three days {SO GROSS} so that is the first thing I did
when I got home about an hour or so ago. Then checked my email and now am heading for bed
or couch. Hospital stays wear you out...

Lovely find and update on my dad...

Don't you just love this display mirror?

it even has beveled edges
price...$5.00 !

I know in my last post I told you that my dad is
doing so much better and he is, but he
still needs your prayers.
We thought he would be coming
home today, but now it has been changed
until next week sometime.

His heart doctor wants to implant an ICD

{implantable cardioverter-defibrillator }

Dad was not too keen on the idea,
but after discussing it with my mom
and us kids he has decided to go ahead with it.
He may not be home now until Tuesday
or Wednesday.

He is in very good spirits and we have a
wonderful time when we visit, but it is still
a scary thing whenI realize that it is
my dad's heart
that we are talking about.

Praying that the Lord will guide the doctor's
hands and that all will go well.

Blessings~

We welcomed Spring with a new grandchild!

What a way to welcome the
first day of spring... with a brand new life.

Our sixth grandchild.

Little Kanaan was not due for another 2 and 1/2 weeks,
but he decided he would make his arrival early.
Isn't he a doll baby?
6 lbs 8 ounces and 19 inches long
Look at his hair...the nurses say it is red
time will tell.
Would love another redhead in the family.
His daddy {our son} is a redhead.
The happy family... well little Keira wasn't here for the picture, but she loves her baby brother !

I am one exhausted grandma today! Saturday we decided to head out to a huge antique mall and other shopping that is about an hour and a half away. Had a fun time, but I was tired and SO ready to come home when we were done shopping. We got the phone call on the way home...

"Hi mom...just want to let you know that we are headed to the hospital"....REALLY????

He called again about 11:30 pm telling us that precious baby had arrived. YAY!

Sunday morning we went to church and then right on to Annika's 3rd birthday party and from there we took the two hour drive to the hospital to see our precious new Kanaan...very tired today , but it was so worth it holding another precious new life that God has given.

Today I am not doing anything!! lol Blessings~

911 Call -

This photo is my daddy whom I love very much.
(at my niece's wedding three years ago) ~
Got that dreaded phone call at 11 pm from mom
last night telling me that she had called 911
because my father was very sick.
They only live about 8 miles away so of course we flew out there.
Watched them load my precious father in the EMS unit ~

We got home from the hospital at 4:30 this morning.
He had a heart attack.
They put three stents in one artery and removed
part of a clot.
He looked so much better and was talking to us
before we left. He even was laughing and told us
to go home and sleep.
Thank God for doctors and their gifts of a healing touch.
I am not ready to lose my father.
He is my hero, my rock and I love him so much! Please say a prayer for him today~
Blessings~
