146 different patents for clothes pins.
That is a lot of patents!
My mother hung clothes on the line
when I was growing up and
I am sure that is so for many of you.
I , in turn, also used to hang many of my clothes
outside on the line and loved the fresh smell
when I was taking them down.
I remember many days of stiff towels and jeans
and no matter what I did, they stayed stiff
even after folding them. I did get a little wiser
at one point and put them in the dryer on
air dry only, but that only did so much! lol
I don't hang clothes out as much as I used to, but oncein awhile I will still put my linens on the line.
Nothing like fresh linens waving in the breeze
on a beautiful summer day!
Do you still use clothespins?...to hang clothes or
just for crafts?

Hello Sandi... I love your old clothespins! I have mine from YEARS ago, and no, I don't use them for crafts... some things I will never change from their original state and clothespins are one of those things... I too always hung clothes out to dry... I still love seeing them blowing in the breeze... to me that is the epitome of simple country pleasures... xoxo Julie Marie
I love the old clothes pins. I stopped hanging clothes on the line when my son started with allergy symptoms, and I suddenly I thought we stay out on those allergy sensitive days, and yet I expected him to sleep with his face in a pillow case covered with pollen, so that ended my clothes hanging, so now the clothes pins are a decorative thing only.

I still hang clothes on the line along with sheets, rugs and towels. If there is a good breeze, they come in wrinkle free. If not, I toss them in the dryer for 5 minutes to fluff. Clothes and other things off the line smell so fresh! Thanks for the post, I enjoyed it very much.

I do hang clothes. mostly shirts or blouses on the hangers and then out on my gazebo to flip away, I will hang over my deck handrails as well. At one time I hung out sheets but not anymore. People used to hang out everything, including underwear. Once my hubby hung out mine and I got mad that my neighbors could see them, LOL. Jane

I hang my clothes on the line every chance I get. But it does rain here alot so, not as much as I'd like. I don't hang jeans, towels or sweatshirts on the line too often because they get stiff or never get dry! I have discovered, though, that if you leave them on the line overnight, the dew helps them to be a little softer. And since we live on a bay the breeze is always blowing a little, and that helps with the stiffness, too!
I like to buy new clothes pins every year so the old ones won't stain my light colored clothes from them when they turn dark. I did finally learn to bring my clothespins in with the dried clothes so they should last longer!
I would love to find some of the vintage clothespins just for decoration. I think they are such a neat invention!
I remember a couple of times my mother being stung by a bee that was sitting on the clothespin as she was taking the clothes down.
I think here clothes would sometimes mildew before they'd dry. I don't know how anyone lived here before clothes dryers.
I use clothes pins to hold potato chip bags closed.

My old style pins got the white paint and "snow" glitter treatment and I use them for hanging up my chenille spread. I use the new fangled spring loading kind for the real clothes line- only- I don't have one here!!! :(
Hi Sandi... I don't hang clothes hardly at all anymore... Tom still likes his sheets on the line but I prefer the dryer most of the time... I remember how stiff the towels and jeans would get compared to dring them in the dryer... Old clothes pins are neat ... Happy Fourth...
