Christmas Spirit

Just wanted to pop in and let you know that

CHRISTMAS IS COMING!!

Just in case you didn't know

I just found this beautiful cream and white tree at our local Goodwill store
for $5.00. That just immediately put me in the Christmas spirit.

I saw an idea on Pinterest to make candle holders in old zinc canning jar lids and I intended
to do that, but for now I decided just to throw in a tea light with some glittery mica.

Truthfully, that may be as far as I get until after Christmas. Candle making sounds like a
great idea to do on a cold and blustery January day. I have never made my own candles
so it should be a fun first time ever craft.

I am not ready for Christmas. I am farther behind than ever. ONE gift has been purchased
and that was a small one. HELP! lol

Are you ready?? Ready or not..
here it comes!!

Creation of a tattered garland...

I saw a garland on facebook that someone had made and it gave me the motivation that I have been needing
to make one. I have been wanting to do it for a few months, but just never sat down and started before this,
so start I did and am I ever glad!

I am loving the way it turned out!

The sky is the limit on these fun beauties! Any color, any fabric, trim etc.

long...short...old...new...

A work in progress in my dining room

How fun would these be hanging outside in the summer

just because...
OR ...for a garden party, in a potting shed, on a porch ...anywhere really!! :)

I do believe I will be making more.
I want to make a soft pastel one soon and I can't wait to see how it
turns out.

A few of them just might land in my Etsy shop as well so be on the lookout
if you are interested.

Happy Sunday!

Tomato Bisque ~

This
Tomato Bisque
is so yummy~
Remember this cookbook that I won
from Tracie over at My Petite Maison ?
{the photo below is from the book}
This is the first recipe I made out of this cookbook.
I made it for our lunch today and it was
definitely a hit with hubby and I.
I will most certainly be making it again.
Next time I will plan better
and purchase some crusty bread to go with it. Since I didn't plan very well,
we only had garlic bread on hand.
It was okay, but I would prefer the crusty french bread
with it next time. lol

Tomato Bisque
8 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/2 cup chopped onion
1 and 1/2 teaspoons minced fresh dill, plus more for garnish
2 lbs. heirloom tomatoes, chopped
4 cups chicken or vegetable broth (I used chicken)
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 and 1/4 cups heavy cream
2/3 cup half-and-half
1/4 cup minced fresh flat-leaf parsley
1/4 cup honey
salt and freshly ground pepper to taste

In a large nonreactive pot, melt 6 tablespoons of the butter over medium heat and saute the onion and the 1 and 1/2 teaspoons dill until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the tomatoes and broth, bring to a simmer, and remove from the heat.

In a small saucepan, melt the remaining 2 tablespoons butter over medium heat and add the flour, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon for 3 minutes without browning. Add the cream and half-and-half and bring to a boil, stirring occasionally. Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for 15 minutes. Stir in the parsley and honey. Remove from the heat. Using an immersion blender, stand blender, or food processor, puree the cream mixture with the tomato-broth mixture ( in batches, if necessary ). Return the blended soup to the same pot, reheat over low heat, and season with salt and pepper.

To serve , ladle into warmed shallow soup bowls and garnish with dill.
Serves 6 to 8

Enjoy !
Blessings~

My Quaint Little Bathroom ~

Okay fellow bloggers...are you ready for this??? I know most people don't show their bathrooms, but I worked a little in mine yesterday and I thought *WHY NOT* so here we go...

First let me confess that our house was built in the late 1800's and some of the old wiring and old walls and definitely old LONG windows are still in place. Initially when we purchased this house and acreage in 1982 we had grand ideas of renovating big time, but through years of layoffs and pay cuts and being a one income family that just has not happened and truthfully it probably never will. That being said I am very content in my humble abode (most of the time) until we have to shell out big bucks for heat in the winter or something needs repaired for the fourth time..lol

This is my TEENY TINY bathroom...the only one in the house and I love it. I measured it today and from wall to wall it is only 5 feet 4 inches (I think I am about that tall...I should have just laid down and measured...LOL) x 6 feet 10 inches. We raised three kids in this tiny bath and they actually survived (and even thrived!)

This wall is straight across from the wall with the sink and commode on (that sounds much better than the *T* word don't you think) To the right of this picture I do have a double closet with shelves (and doors) that holds a lot of towels , cleaners etc. ~

Love my vintage towel with a *B* monogram~ Pretties on my stand...not sure what I want in the bowl yet so just stuck the candle in there for picture taking ~
This is what I did yesterday. I had a vintage pink and black stool in here, but I went upstairs and hauled down this little stand and I think I just love it in here! I try to think outside the box when decorating. This is technically a nightstand from Kmart's baby line. I purchased it for $20 or so when it was on clearance and I knew I would find a place for it. Initially it was upstairs at the top of the stairs, but something else will have to go there now.
A PARIS hook on my tiny closet door holding my white PJ's ~
Love this mirror...I have a thing for mirrors. If I find one I love and it is cheap I will buy it no matter that I already have many, many mirrors in this house already! LOL ~
This area is right off to the left as you come in the door. The only dark piece of wood I have in here is the vanity that hubby made a few years ago...now I wish it was painted, but oh well. It will do just fine. Do you see the little vintage light pink match holder above the commode? I put Q-tips in that and love it~
My *caddy* on the back of the commode~
LOVE this light fixture ~
You know me...I gotta throw a pop of color in somewhere every now and then. Depends on my mood if the towel matches everything else or if it is a pink polka dot one ~
I hope I didn't scare you too much by showing you *THE ROOM*. I love fixing up my house and moving things around for a new look. The color of the walls is *Summer linen*...the same color I just repainted my back porch/laundry room. I am hung up on this color. Have a joyful day filled with doing things that you love. Blessings~

Ivory Dreams ~

I am enamored with neutral colors lately. I love this candleholder ...I purchased it new at Home Goods several months ago. Love the vintage corsage also~
I stopped at a garage sale last weekend at 3 pm on a Saturday and could not believe this old lace was still there! I paid $2.00 for the whole lot. There are yards of it on two old cardboard pieces.
My dear friend and I went greenhouse hopping today and she brought me this ribbon. What a nice surprise! Three spools of it for a total of 30 yards!! I love it! Thank you pookie!
Part of the decor in my newly painted back porch/entry way~
I just noticed the tiny candle on that large candleholder. It was the only candle within reach at the time and I intended to change it for a larger one and forgot. Just imagine that it is larger and looks better ~ LOL
The lace in this photo hides our black washer hoses and red faucets ~
I am still working on finishing touches on the porch, but I love how it is coming along. Have a wonderful day.
Blessings~

Reflection ~

I have been very busy trying to get decorations ready for a bridal shower and also trying to redecorate my back porch/entry. Remember my post about "rearranging"? I repainted the little green cupboard on the wall in a cream color and that is what is reflected in this mirror. I was amazed at how many items I had in creams and whites. Just went through the house pulling things *off and out*. I must get busy again...just wanted to give you a glimpse of a beautiful reflection.

Some Days Just Don't Go as Planned ~

Ever had one of those days...where you know exactly what you want to do and it just doesn't happen? Everything you do seems to go wrong? That was my Saturday. I had every intention of getting my stairway painted and that did not happen.
No glorious picture here...just paint chips. Decisions to make and frustration setting in. When I want something done I plunge in head first and most times it works...not this time.

*FIRST MISTAKE* ~Trying to be the thrifty gal I am , I mixed two gallons of paint that were maybe 3/4 full of their original paint thinking that way I would not have to purchase any more paint. When I started painting it was not the color I wanted at all. Then to make matters worse, I was using hubbys telescoping pole with the roller attached to the top and I kept banging into the wall trying to get it up in the stairway (this is sounding pathetic I know)

*SECOND MISTAKE* ~ I swung the pole out over where I *DID NOT* have drop cloths down, over my new hardwood dining room floor and paint dripped everywhere! At that point, I was ready to give up! So after cleaning all that up that is just what I did...some days are just not worth the effort . I was just sitting on the stairs looking pathetic when hubby found me.

His solution: *Let's go to town and find some paint... *But I am not in the mood to buy paint now ...*oh come on let's go. So off we go where I find myself in a real dilema! Do you know how many colors of white are out there? *OH MY GOODNESS* ... Snow ballet, Moondance, Sentimental, China White, Whispering Wind, Garlic Clove, Queen Anne's Lace, Delicate White, Antique White, Country White, Rice Paper, Princeton White, Berkshire White, Milk Bubbles (I like bubbles maybe this one? ) Windsong, London White, Clean and Crisp, Ice Touch , WHITE (or this one)...and hundreds of other whites! I gave up and came back home without paint in hand so needless to say the stairway is once again on hold! Whatever happened to just plain old *WHITE*...I *WILL* get this conquered eventually ~
